Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest: 200 Sites Unified into Accessible Portal

Brussels residents faced a complex challenge as over 200 fragmented government websites needed to be consolidated into a single, accessible portal. iO Digital implemented a comprehensive digital transformation, including workshops on inclusive co-design, adherence to WCAG 2.2 AA standards, and the development of a component library to ensure accessibility. The project resulted in the creation of be.brussels, a modern, secure platform that made 3,550 web pages fully accessible to 1.2 million citizens. This initiative redefined public service accessibility by structuring information around real citizen needs rather than isolated websites. The outcome was a unified, inclusive digital ecosystem that improved efficiency and user experience for all residents.
