Google App Launch: #NVDVgoesdigital's Virtual Refugee Event

In 2020, #NVDVgoesdigital faced a major challenge when the 11th edition of the Night of the Refugee could not proceed due to COVID-19. The organization had to create a new solution that allowed participants to walk individually in their own environments. Harborn Digital developed an app that tracked thousands of users in real time, enabling the event to continue. Participants could walk at their own pace, sponsor friends, and follow the finale via a livestream on World Refugee Day. The app integrated GPS tracking with Apple and Google step counters, and donations were processed through iRaiser. After the initial launch, the app evolved to enhance the experience during the night itself, offering real-time performance insights, team information, and donation tracking. The app became a successful alternative to in-person events, raising awareness and funds for refugees while maintaining engagement through personalized features.
